Dr Lauren Fraser (PhD, PGDip, FCLIP, FHEA, MA, BA(Hons)) is Senior Liaison Librarian at QMU. She joined the University in 2020, supporting students and academic colleagues by providing strategic leadership within Library Services, managing the team of Liaison Librarians and specialising in support for the Division of Media, Communication and Performing Arts, teaching information and digital literacies, curating library collections, providing research assistance, developing learning and teaching materials and collaborating with academic colleagues to integrate library resources and support into campus-based, online and collaboration/partnership courses.
A librarian and researcher since 2010, Lauren was named a Library Journal Mover and Shaker in 2011, and in 2025 was awarded the QMU Student Union STAR Award for Best Support Staff. She completed her PhD in the Department of Computer and Information Science at the University of Strathclyde in 2016.
Lauren’s academic and professional areas of expertise include critical pedagogies, information literacy, digital learning, widening participation in higher education, evidence synthesis in health and social care integration, surveillance and freedom of expression, and civic engagement. Her work has been used as input to the Scottish Parliament and Scottish Government, and the UK Government Parliamentary Select Committee for Culture, Media and Sports. She has served as Vice President for the Chartered Institute for Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) and is currently on the editorial board of The Journal of Information Literacy and a section editor for The Journal of Radical Librarianship.
Lauren is the Elected Trade Union member for Professional Services on the University Court, appointed in February 2026. She serves as the Secretary and Equalities Officer for the QMU branch of the University and College Union (UCU).
